After getting a little bit bored by Ikea lately I'm more than surprised about their new quality design collection by London designer Ilse Crawford available from august 1st and only available in Ikea stores. Sinnerlig is entirely based around nature and it's earthy colors. With its range of cork and natural-fibre homeware products combined with black metal it looks almost too good to be true.
This collaboration between Ikea and the designer contains about 30 products - from larger items like a cork covered table and a beautiful neutral day bed down to a cork stool and hand blown glass bottles. are made to fit into any home. The Sinnerlig collection features a unique range of natural materials that make the products fit into any home.
"It's supposed to work in a bathroom in Mumbai as well as a kitchen in Neasden, it has to fit into people's lives," Ilse Crawford
If you are looking for strong statement pieces with unique shapes or items that can compete with the big names in design like Eames you should start looking somewhere else. As Crawford says, the items are simply the background image to a bigger picture. They are not to compete with other items.
"We see it as background, it's not trying to compete with these fantastic icons of design – it's a different thing." Ilse Crawford
